How to remove location from photos before you share them
Phone photos quietly store where they were taken – often precise enough to show your home. Drag the photos, hold Shift and drop them on Clean: Velvet saves copies without location, camera and date info.
The usual ways – and their catch
- File Explorer properties. Right-click → Properties → Details → Remove Properties and Personal Information. It works, but it's well hidden and easy to forget.
- Turn off location on the phone. Stops it for new photos, but not for the ones you already have – and you lose the handy map in your own gallery.
- Trusting the app you share to. Some apps strip location, many don't – and email and messengers often keep it.
Strip the location and other hidden info – the quick way with Velvet
- Select the photos and start dragging. One photo or many.
- Hold Shift and move the cursor outward. The outer ring opens with more actions.
- Drop them on Clean. Clean copies appear next to the originals – no location, camera or date info.
It works for PDFs too: Clean removes a PDF's author, the app it was made with and other hidden details.
