How to blur a license plate or face in a photo on Windows
Drag the photo, hold Shift and drop it on Blur. Drag over the number plate, a face or a name – it's blurred or blacked out – and save a copy. Your original stays as it is.
The usual ways – and their catch
- Drawing over it. Built-in editors let you scribble over it with a marker – it looks rough and sometimes still shows through.
- Cropping it out. Works only when the detail is at the edge of the picture.
- Photo editing apps or websites. Too many steps for a quick screenshot – and websites mean uploading the very thing you want to hide.
Hide part of a picture – the quick way with Velvet
- Start dragging the photo or screenshot and hold Shift. The ring opens.
- Drop it on Blur. The picture opens in the Blur window.
- Drag over what should disappear. Choose blur or a solid black box. Mark as many areas as you like.
- Save hidden copy. A copy appears next to the original.
For screenshots with private text, a solid box is safer than blur – it can't be undone.
